Frequently Asked Questions
Do you Build Homes in Tamworth and Surrounding Areas?
Yes. Datum Projects is a Tamworth-based building company servicing the Tamworth region, travelling to areas like Quirindi, Spring Ridge, Gunnedah, Manilla, Armidale, Nundle and everywhere in between. We complete residential and commercial projects across both town and rural properties.
What types of building projects do you specialise in?
Datum Projects specialises in:
- New home builds
- Home renovations and extensions
- Commercial construction
- Structural works and custom projects
Each project is tailored to suit the client’s needs, site conditions, and budget.
Why should I choose a local Tamworth builder?
Choosing a local Tamworth builder means working with a team that understands:
- Local council regulations and approvals
- Climate and soil conditions
- Reliable local trades and suppliers
This results in smoother approvals, better scheduling, and a higher-quality finished build.
Are you licensed and insured?
Can you help with council approvals and permits?
Yes – Datum Projects manages the entire build for you. From design and approvals through to construction and handover, you’ll have a single point of contact for the whole process. That includes completing the Tamworth Regional Council approval process, liaising with designers, engineers, and certifiers to ensure your project meets all requirements
Our clients often tell us this “fully managed” approach is one of the biggest stress-relievers during their building project.
Do you work with local trades and suppliers?
We work closely with trusted local Tamworth trades and suppliers as much as we can, ensuring high-quality workmanship, reliable timelines, and support for the local economy.
Can you work within my budget?
Absolutely – Budget clarity is one of the cornerstones of our process. From our first discussions with you, we aim to grasp a full image of your building ideas, goals and budget. Then, before we begin your home or renovation, we offer a Preliminary Building Agreement which removes uncertainty and avoids unexpected costs. It covers the scope and specifics of your project from the basic design right up to a schedule of completion.
Once we are sure the plans meet your needs and cover the requirements of your build, we offer a Fixed Price Building Contract that confirms the entire cost of your project so you can be sure there will be no unexpected costs later. Any variations are discussed openly, with your approval required before changes are made.
We are all about clear communication and transparent pricing while maintaining quality workmanship and results.
Do you offer custom builds or standard designs?
Datum Projects offers fully custom builds tailored to your lifestyle, site, and preferences. We can also work from existing plans or collaborate with designers and architects of your choice.
How long does a typical build or renovation take?
Project timelines vary depending on scope, approvals, and weather conditions but on average, from the beginning of construction to the final handover, it can take 6 months. The initial approvals stage must also be kept in mind.
Once we discuss your ideas, we can fit you into our schedule and work out when you can enjoy the results of your build! Normally, an initial consultation can be organised within the week. The sooner we get talking, the sooner we get building.
What makes Datum Projects different from other building companies?
Unlike large volume builders, Datum Projects offers:
- Personalised service
- Direct communication with your builder
- Local knowledge and hands-on experience
- Strong attention to detail
- We focus on quality over quantity.
Many builders can construct a house, but at Datum Projects we focus on building trust and clarity just as much as bricks and mortar. From our transparent quoting process to our weekly communication guarantee as well as showing up on time, we prioritise keeping clients informed and confident every step of the way.
What is a Preliminary Building Agreement and a Fixed Price Building Contract?
A Preliminary Building Agreementis a contract between the client and builder that outlines preparatory work before construction begins. It typically includes site assessments, design concepts, cost estimations, feasibility studies, soil tests, engineering plans, and council approvals. The costs involved in the preliminary building agreement would all be inclusive in the build once a contract is signed, however by completing these tests before the build, it ensures:
- the project is designed correctly and aligns with your needs
- all costs and specifications have been accounted for
- the risks of unexpected costs are reduced by identifying potential issues at the start
- rapport is built between you and your builder before construction begins
A Fixed Price Building Contract is an agreement where the builder commits to completing a construction project for a predetermined lump sum price. It is a detailed and thorough scope of works that includes your custom choices and details for each stage of your plans. This price includes all materials and labor and, with limited exceptions, cannot be changed during the project unless by agreed variation.
What should I consider when designing my plans?
- Your personal needs and preferences
- Talking to a builder as well as architect for design and cost
- Size, lighting and layout – imagine using the space, what it will be like and how its use might change in the future
- Eco-friendly choices (visit https://www.yourhome.gov.au/ for some great ideas on home sustainability)
Will it cost more to build again or renovate/extend?
Can I be involved in the building process?
Yes, we will keep you up-to-date and involved along the way through face-to-face meetings, phone calls, email and via our Construction Management Software that gives you access to your proposal details, the project timelines and your selections.
